"A Voice With Character."  - The Vocalist Magainze

"The grounds of Atlanta's Morehouse College are full of musicians; to rap or sing R&B is the living and breathing culture that dwells within the gates of this institution, but hearing an artist that stands out with a rhythm different from the rest can be rare.

Victor Perry, an emerging artist with a vocal range that surpasses that of many of his peers, is one such voice. His second single “Lighthouse,” a pop ballad, shows exactly what kind of artist he is: one without limits and always looking for a different sound. He paints an eloquent picture of what it means to have a relationship in turmoil, and what it’s like to feel the struggle of finding the path to stability, trust, and loyalty as he declares, “I’ll steer her to grace.”

Perry uses mid-tempo snare beats and a soothing piano and guitar intertwinement to supplement his image of a man desperately treading above the waves in a futile attempt to save a love, telling Transverso, “It’s not always about calling out their mistakes, it’s about being there to support them.”

"There will always be something about a great singing voice that draws in the listener, not only into the lyrics but into the melody and delivery of the words as well.  There are many ways to do this all over the vocal octave but our new find Victor Perry has found the sweet spot that is perfect for his voice.

The singer-songwriter is a native of Thomasville, Georgia that has been working hard to set himself apart with his unique voice.  The 22 year old Victor Perry attends Morehouse college where he is a major part of the music scene and has performed at major events such as the Vh1 Save the Music Benefit Concert.  He has found a way to blend rural gospel roots with new mainstream pop influences to create something that is all his own.  The energy Victor sings with shows the influence of alternative rock and R&B as well.  The voice is what truly stands out here though.  Victor Perry is able to stay on the high end of the register amazingly well and hold notes that big stars have trouble with.  Some cover songs have been released such as Sia’s “Chandelier” and Adele’s “Hello” that have gained Perry some major attention.

Plans are in the works now for the release of a debut EP called 4 A.M. Nostalgia. The lead single “Lighthouse” has already been making the rounds as a preview of what is to come.  You know you are in for something special right of the bat with the pretty piano intro.  When the vocals come in the listener is immediately drawn deep into the song.  The phrasing adds a melodic element that captures attention.  Lyrically Victor Perry is not afraid to share real emotions and inside thoughts about love and it’s sometimes toxic effects.  The production is top notch as well setting up “Lighthouse” to be the start of a promising career for Victor Perry."

"22-year-old, Victor Perry’s latest single “Lighthouse” is gorgeous, filled with raw vocals and heartfelt lyrics. Victor really is unique, and personally, I feel as if his individuality is what gives the track its strength. The music and lyrics are bare, not diluted with excessive synthetic sounds or other fluff, and he deals with the serious topic of love in a vulnerable, yet assured way.

The music is lovely, and the instruments blend with his voice nicely, complementing instead of competing. But it’s the Thomasville, Georgia native’s voice which is the main attraction on this song, followed closely by the lyrics.

Victor Perry’s mesmerizing voice and the lush sounds are all just seductive, intimate, catchy, and revealing at the same time.  Start to finish, it is flawless and relentlessly engaging. What cannot be understated is the intensity of the emotional response this recording evokes.

I firmly believe that the best art expresses – through whatever medium – something very profound about the human condition and resonates with us at a level perhaps deeper than we can explain.

Really good art leaves us changed after experiencing it. “Lighthouse” has the capacity to achieve that. A song able to reach out and grab you immediately, and then on repeated listening it will penetrate even more deeply and more permanently.

Not only does “Lighthouse” offer uniquely uncompromising lyrics and depth, it’s also a testament to the things most important to an artist: conviction, determination, and a desire to share soul-searching experiences. With a dose of exceptional guitar and piano, Perry unleashes his creativity in an immense way, as the song aims to capture a piece of your heart.

This is a talented young man whose passion for music radiates from the track. Comparisons could be made with a lot of the greats that came before him, however nothing seems copied or mimicked, but sounds wonderfully natural and emotive.

With his Alternative, Pop, R&B and Rock influences, it’s hard to pigeonhole Victor Perry, although it would be easy to dismiss this single as just another clever pop song in an already crowded genre, but it’s that soulful quality which lifts this above the rest.

This is well crafted music, with something to say about life and love, and Victor Perry can look forward to a long career if he can equal this on his following releases. For me,“Lighthouse” is quite simply superb!"

"From the first few bars of “Rainbows”, you just know that you are going to hear something special, and this time it comes from new Atlanta-based R&B/pop singer/songwriter Victor Perry.  Though there’s not a bad song at all on his EP 4 A.M. Nostalgia, the record really is all about his inspiring voice, and a sweet style that recalls singers like Toni Braxton and Smokey Robinson.  “Rainbows” probably has the most committed vocal to the sad story where there are still glorious rainbows ‘without colouring’.  Victor has brilliant control and resonance like Mikky Ekko and Alex Newell (when he’s not belting out powerhouse dance tunes).  This is all going to take him very far and 4 A.M. Nostalgia is a fine start.  You can pick it up on iTunes."

"Victor Perry delivers Vocal Bliss with his new EP" - Nick Brutus

"Singer-songwriter Victor Perry has always channeled his rural gospel roots and infused them with new-school influences, crafting a sound that connects to the soul. His latest  EP 4 A.M Nostalgia is a full body of work that is worth the listen. Alternative R&B soundscapes weave organically throughout his music. With a voice that you will easily warm up to, Perry delivers a vocal range that you would do a double-take if ever you heard it in public, or once you click play below."

"Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Victor Perry releases radiant single 'Rainbows' taken from new EP '4AM'.
There's a really organic and wholesome approach to Victor Perry who prides himself on creating holistic, soul touching tracks, channeling his rural gospel roots and infusing them with new-school influences.

'Rainbows' has such a sunny disposition about it, its hard not to bathe in its cheerful, melodic glow, regardless of the colourless rainbows and sad nostalgia in its juxtaposing lyricism.

Weaving Indie-Alternative, Alternative Pop, and Alternative R&B soundscapes together, Victor pulls from inspirations such as Mikky Ekko, Angus and Julia, Rihanna, and Coldplay to create a familiar and contemporary sound that is naturally diluted into his own special flavouring."

“this voice, this EP, this artist…peerless!” - Forrister Jenot

"We have discovered many amazing new artists globally this year, but one deserves special note…

A native of Thomasville, Georgia singer-songwriter Victor Perry has always channeled his rural gospel roots and infused them with new-school influences, crafting a sound that connects to the soul.

The twenty-two year old’s music surfaces as an Alternative-Pop/R&B melody inspired by mainstream acts such as Mikky Ekko, Angus and Julia, Rihanna, and Coldplay. Holistically, traces of Indie-Alternative, Alternative Pop, and Alternative R&B soundscapes weave organically throughout his music.

With a voice that seemingly knows no limits, Perry delivers melodies that appeal to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Indeed, his vocals are right at home on his covers of groundbreaking pop ballads such as Sia’s Chandelier and Adele’s Hello."

"A Metling Pot of Styles"

"One of the Thomasville, Georgia region’s most promising up-and-coming young artists, Victor Perry is slowly but surely making a name for himself with his distinctive brand of soulful, RnB-inflected pop that mixes the earnestness of his rural gospel roots with an eclectic host of modern influences. As his latest track, Rainbows, continues to show, this melting pot of styles is proving to be an effective and inspired starting point for the talented young singer.

As the lead-off track to his new EP 4 AM Nostalgia, Rainbows is a definite slow burner, relying on mostly sparse, intricate guitar picking for instrumentation. The track is all the better for it, though, as it lets Perry’s delicate, feminine voice take centre stage, as it wraps gracefully around the reflective lyrics that touch upon themes of unrequited love. “Memories are dangerous things,” he warns, whilst examining the bittersweet reality “competing for a love I won’t receive”.

It’s a touching torch song in the classic tradition, both poetic yet relatable lyrically – a trait made all the more evocative by Perry’s effortless vocal acrobatics, using his expansive range and dazzling falsetto with precision so laser-sharp it could cut glass.

Fans of slick, emotive balladry, dive in – you won’t want to miss this."

GIRL UNDERGROUND MUSIC

JULY 2016

https://girlundergroundmusic.com/2016/07/24/victor-perry-4-a-m-nostalgia-ep-review/

"Old soul at heart, Victor Perry, captures emotions with his high falsettos and a sweet and classic sound, fused with the modern aspects of mainstream pop, on his EP, 4 A.M. Nostalgia. The 22-year-old hailing from Georgia, displays joyous melodies with an exposed core in his music which seems to glide freely from Perry’s vocals. The 5 track EP is a collection of well tailored thoughts to reflect back, and in this case, come alive at 4 a.m.

Noting a theme with colorful harmonies, Perry opens the track with his single “Rainbows,” and sweetly demonstrates the fusion of pop and R&B. In addition to the high vocals, there is a hint of nostalgic pop heard within the blissful times of late 60s’ pop. Perry incorporates his influences, yet cleanly transitions the track into the modern age towards the end with slight electronic sounds, adding to the “new” colors of the rainbow’s spectrum.

Slowing down the momentum while being centered on love, “Nighttime Baby” falls into a catchy, sweet melodic structure. Perry’s high falsettos are equally dispersed through the song, noting other ranges the young musician possesses. Regardless of what melody is backed behind Perry’s vocals, there is a very honest, sensitive side, that oozes from this track.

The remainder of the EP turns into raw, leftover feelings, notably mentioning the last two tracks, “LightHouse” and “Nostalgia.” Letting vocals and the words connect with a listener, “LightHouse” stands out with its texturing effect towards the end of the sound, mimicking bursts of lights as each layer is added towards the end. Whereas “Nostalgia” touches a listener with an obvious method, carried out by a slow-tempo piano, focused on emotive vocals.

Simple and natural are some words which can be used to describe Perry’s stance on music. Delivering his message while staying true to his own sound is admirable, and we look forward future releases where Perry will tap further into his flawless gift of a bright soul."

"Indie singer-songwriter Victor Perry defies genres in his romantic and heartbreaking EP 4 A.M. Nostalgia. At 22, the Thomasville, Georgia native combines rural gospel roots with modern influences of Adele, Sia and Coldplay to create his unique voice.

Lead track “Rainbows” displays Perry’s lyrical talents as he takes you on a musical journey through his broken heart. Perry’s vocal range seems to be endless. Love is complicated, and saying goodbye is sometimes inevitable, which Perry shows on the track “Leave.” “Lighthouse” uses lovely metaphors for his tale of a girl’s complicated feelings and is my favorite track on the EP. “It’s hard to imagine a you without me/Run through my veins and let me be,” sings Perry on the final track “Nostalgia.” It’s a perfect end to the EP as Perry wants to be free of heartbreak and nostalgia that is so relatable."

http://jamsphere.com/newreleases/victor-perry-4-a-m-nostalgia-not-only-captures-listeners-but-it-takes-them-to-a-whole-new-atmosphere

"A few months back we bumped into 22-year-old, Victor Perry’s gorgeous single, “Lighthouse” and were blown away. Victor’s mesmerizing voice and the lush sounds were are all at once seductive, intimate, catchy, and revealing.  Start to finish, the song was flawless and relentlessly engaging. But that song was just over three and a half minutes long, and it would seem fairly easy to surprise and capture people’s attention for that period of time if you have an outstanding voice.

The question is, how would Victor fair over a longer period of time with a bigger variety of songs, and especially once the surprise factor of his stunning vocal range wore off. His EP “4 A.M. Nostalgia” now brings us the answer.

“4 A.M. Nostalgia” not only captures listeners, but it takes them to a whole new atmosphere. This Thomasville, Georgia native is so incredible, so talented, and writes such beautiful lyrics and music, that it will be almost impossible to hold him under covers for too long.  Victor Perryyearns with his heart and soul throughout the EP with sonic soul grooves and introspective masterpieces.

Victor brings that endless vibe of earthy grooves and meditative melodies to soothe us through times in a world where pain and sufferance are so seemingly dominant emotions and people have forgotten how to love and celebrate life. Victor bathes in the contrasting feelings of love. He brings those sensations through the sound system and allows it to linger in our most private of dreams, fantasies, and moments.

“4 A.M. Nostalgia” is the time for us to be intoxicated by Victor’s interpretation of love’s timeless and touching symptoms. He has a way of appealing to the mind, heart, and spirit all at once, through, not only the lyrics, which illustrate a cleverly subtle suggestiveness, but reinforced by his spontaneous, tantalizing croons and his equally spontaneous, wide-ranging inflections.

From the opening track, “Rainbows”, the production is beautifully done by William Perry Jr. It’s crystal clear, dynamic and deep, with Victor’s fluid, angelic voice, flowing and meandering its way around each of these gems like a peaceful stream. “Nighttime Baby” forges some stellar falsetto singing that will ignite your soul, and set fire to the deepest of your passions.

Smooth rhythms meld with mellow but engulfing instrumentation, mixed and produced expertly. The sensation of listening to a heartfelt track such as “Leave” is reminiscent of opening one’s eyes after a deep sleep and feeling gratitude for having awoken anew from a very bad experience. The track also has sensational background harmonies to match the melancholic mood.

Tracks such as “Lighthouse” and“Nostalgia” further give the impression that Victor Perry is not going to simply play it safe like many of his contemporaries, he is aiming to continue to grow, challenge himself and his listeners.

With Victor’s voice as tangible yet delicately soulful as silk, the atmosphere of this EP becomes lush with passion and love. “4 A.M. Nostalgia” is a collection of songs that will leave you breathless and open up parts of your heart and mind you didn’t even know you had.

"It started in the 90’s with ballads that were transformed into dance anthems such as Toni Braxton’s “Un-break My Heart” and Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love”, so the tradition continues with Victor Perry’s totally gorgeous “Rainbows”.  The song is riding high on the BILLCS Top 30 at #13, and while the song stands well enough on its own, The Wookie’s remix is incredibly complimentary and can bring it to the attention of an entirely different audience.  Victor’s voice is perfectly suited to the dance genre and can keep his own favourite singers great company there as a result.  This remix is so inspiring and people will ask about it, and club DJ’s will have no problem fitting it into any uptempo set.  I had a bit of a hand in this one – I merely introduced the two artists, who then ran off and did something better than I could ever have imagined and it makes me love the song even more!  Bravo and three thumbs up."

"I like what is happening with pop music and a pleasant surprise that sometimes takes the form R'n'B or Indie Pop, and even more pleasing to the producers that make this new music accessible to club dancefloors and accordingly a new audience. The original track is a producer from Atlanta by Victor Perry - Rainbows I really like, but, alas, is beyond the format of the places where I used to play, but thanks to the efforts of the duo  zewmøb I had a great opportunity to use this song to their sets.

Actually zewmøb developed the idea of the final part of the original track and built a great synthpop-retroveyv on bits more suitable commercial deep house or tropical house, and I have no doubt that our hipsters will heat remix and tonight at Victor Perry will present the hottest dance."

"Georgia pop/R&B singer Victor Perry shows off two of his major talents in this stripped down cover of Everything But The Girl’s 1995 smash “Missing” – his slick ability as an interpreter and his beautiful high register.  Of course “Missing” is best known as a pop and dance hit thanks to an historic remix by Todd Terry, which transformed and reinvented the slower, more emotional acoustic original from the Amplified Heart album.  Victor turns it back down with piano for support (courtesy of dad/producer William Perry Jr.) and the result is very special, which Everything But The Girl/Tracey Thorn/Ben Watt fans will love, as Victor’s take conveys a similar emotional vibe to the original.  And just when you think that’s not enough, he lets his high register take off for most of the last minute of the song to give a gorgeous, long-lasting coda that you would have never expected.  And this all came about thanks to a Twitter chat Victor and I had about some of our favourite 90’s records:  I sent “Missing” his way, he fell in love with it, and voilà!  Thanks for running with it Victor and putting your own signature stamp on “Missing”  Also be sure to check out Victor’s debut EP 4 AM Nostalgia.  Listen to “Missing” at the above link."

November 2016:

https://freshbeats365.com/2016/11/19/listen-victor-perry-nostalgia/

"R&B has arguably become too complicated for its own good. While core sounds haven’t changed in the past couple of decades, over time it’s become a breeding ground for layers upon layers of intricate instrumentation that detracts from the sentiment. Sometimes, all that is really necessary is a good vocal and a minimalistic musical accompaniment. Like in Victor Perry‘s latest single, Nostalgia, for example.

The single doesn’t do too much of striking brilliance in terms of lyrics — consisting mostly of repetitions — or instrumentation. Where this might usually sit as a criticism, it’s nothing but a selling point for Perry. The tender instrumentation is served up by little more than a piano, with the occasional flourish of strings and drums to aid progression. This minimalism is designed as nothing but a framework for Perry’s vocals, which bring perfect melodies and pitches to a smooth Bruno Mars-esque quality. It is testament to his vocal prowess that he can layer his voice numerous times throughout the track for harmony and never once does it feel like it’s overkill or too much Victor.

Rarely will you find a male vocalist with the range or power as Perry. In the run up to his new EP 4AM Nostalgia, no single could be a better sonic snapshot than this."

Teaming up with engaging vocalist Victor Perry, they have transformed the Judy Garland classic into a brand new dance anthem for the ages. The original is a reflective rumination and hopeful wish - it is the latter sentiment that Saxity enhance through glorious piano riffs, handclap rhythms, trance dance beats and saxaphone ecstasy. Victor is swathed in this inveigling wall of sound and uses it to take the well known lyrics and melody to euphoric new heights. It all coalesces to craft a compelling new take on an old favourite - as if Saxity have taken the song back to the blueprints and rebuilt it letting summer climes infuse the wintry architecture. "Chances are that you haven’t heard from Victor Perry until now. Chances are you will hear a lot more from him from now on. Damn, this guy can sing.

Usually I’m not the kind of girl that likes downtempo emotional r&b/pop tracks. Those who know me will probably say I’m sort of a party girl who likes her music loud, fast and danceable. But tonight I stopped by on the soundcloud account of Victor Perry, giving one of his latest tracks “Nostalgia” a listen. Do you know that feeling when time seems to slow down? This track created that feeling. Imagine that lights-out stage, with only a spotlight on a piano and its player. There you have him, the guy from a small town named Thomasville, Georgia, who manages to set free waves of emotion with just his voice, a piano and minimal strings backing tracks. Boy, he’s got an awesome voice! They say the world’s a stage and each must play a part – I guess Perry already found out what his part is. With his vocal range and the ability to transmit feelings with his singing (which isn’t the easiest thing to do for men in my opinion), he’s capable of letting your mind focus on just what he’s doing. And although the lyrics of “Nostalgia” are deep and meaningful, he’s got the gift of reaching you without even the lyrics. Heck, he could even sing a whole scientific research about the mating habits of unicellular organisms – as long as he’s singing, everything feels warm and bright. Giving the other tracks of his EP “4 A.M. Nostalgia” (already released in June by Phillias Records) a listen, this statement is final. Filled with warm atmospheres, doubled vocal tracks, fresh ideas and just the emotion that everything somehow will be okay, his music is working like a remedy for a stressed mind.
